SGEU MVP of the Week: Jerome Maharaj, Weyburn Red Wings
The Wings had mixed results in their brief foray in Assiniboia, and a significant factor for that was the occasional absence of Mr. Maharaj. He was instrumental in Weyburn’s big win in their return home over Humboldt, posting four of his six points that week on Thursday night at the CPP.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 2 G, 4 A, 6 PTS
Bourgault Forward of the Week: David Coyle, Yorkton Terriers
Yorkton keeps on rolling and with three multi-goal games out of his last four, the veteran centreman Coyle is a big reason why. Six goals in five games in December is not a bad return at all, especially given how many different weapons there are to share the glory in the Terriers forward core.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 4 G, 1 A, 5 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Luke Lepper, Flin Flon Bombers
Lepper’s return from Canada West at the Junior A World Challenge proved more than impactful. He followed up a three-point night last Tuesday at home to Nipawin with a four-pointer Saturday vs. La Ronge. By many accounts, he was Canada West’s best defender at the JAWC, which bodes very well for Mike Reagan and co. the rest of the way.
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 0 G, 7 A, 7 PTS
Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Kristian Coombs, Melfort Mustangs
The absence of goaltending partner Madden Mulawka this past week did not bother Coombs at all. Three more victories, all +.926 save percentage performances, and his personal win streak sits at 10. Melfort’s is at 14 as we hit the Christmas break.
Weekly Stats: 3 starts, 3-0-0-0 record, .946 SV%, 1.33 GAA
IKS Media Rookie of the Week: Jaxon Herchak, Kindersley Klippers
Just like Lepper, Herchak’s return from the JAWC bore immediate fruit. The Klippers ended the 2024 calendar year with two enormous wins over their West Sask rival Battlefords North Stars, and Herchak was front and centre, especially in Saturday’s big win in North Battleford.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 1 G, 3 A, 4 PTS
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Koen Senft, Flin Flon Bombers (from Regina, Sask)
Senft is the third Canada West alum to earn a Player of the Week honour, and after being named Player of the Game in the tournament’s bronze-medal match, the Regina native notched a four-point effort Saturday in a win at home vs. La Ronge. There clearly has been no JAWC hangover for any of the four SJHL participants at the event!
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 2 G, 3 A, 5 PTS
