SGEU MVP of the Week: Ashton Hutchinson, Melfort Mustangs
The beat goes on for the Nation’s No. 3 team, and while Aidyn’s little brother has been rock solid all year for the defending champs, he finally went off in a big way this past week. A four-point night in Humboldt highlights a four-game point streak at time of writing, and he has 10 points in that span.
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 3 G, 3 A, 6 PTS
Bourgault Forward of the Week: Ethan Dekay, Weyburn Red Wings
It is no stretch to argue that the Division I NCAA commit to Michigan Tech is the most dangerous individual player in the league. For the injury-riddled Assiniboia/Weyburn Red Wings, he keeps doing his part to prove it. He added three more impactful games this past week to his seven-game point streak, including a three-assist night in Melville.
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 1 G, 5 A, 6 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Conor Ryan, Nipawin Hawks
A big reason for Nipawin’s recent resurgence is the re-making of their defence corps, and the former Flin Flon Bomber Ryan is front-and-centre in that. He had a two-goal night in La Ronge Friday after scoring at home vs. Yorkton
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 3 G, 1 A, 4 PTS
Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Angelo Zol, Weyburn Red Wings
The heavily banged-up Weyburn Red Wings limped into Assiniboia for their first game as the home team at the Southland Co-op Centre Friday and got just what they needed: a brilliant performance from Zol. A 33-save performance against a determined Kindersley team earned him his second career SJHL shutout.
Weekly Stats: 2 starts, 2-0-0-0 record, .947 SV%, 2.00 GAA
IKS Media Rookie of the Week: Thomas Ries, Yorkton Terriers
Ries continues to be elite, albeit under the radar, and is tied for the SJHL lead in points by a rookie defenceman 18 years old and under. He had a three-point night in Nipawin on an otherwise quiet week for the Terriers. No defender in the league blocks shots as well as he does.
Weekly Stats: 1 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 3 PTS
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Ashton Tait, Nipawin Hawks (from Prince Albert, Sask)
There is no doubt that the young Hawks are coming together, but they still need a star, and in the mega-talented Tait, they seem to have one in the making. Still just 18, but the Prince Albert kid posted four assists at home to Yorkton last week and followed it up with three points Friday in La Ronge.
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 1 G, 6 A, 7 PTS
