SGEU MVP of the Week: David Coyle, Yorkton Terriers
Yorkton was on fire in February, and there was nobody more than David Coyle. He torched Estevan for nine points this past week in two more wins and is at two points per game in the month through six contests. Is there a more dangerous line in the SJHL right now than Coyle between Jaron Desnoyers and William Leonard?
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 5 G, 4 A, 9 PTS
Bourgault Forward of the Week: Jaron Desnoyers, Yorkton Terriers
If Coyle has been the shooter, Desnoyers has been the provider. Yorkton’s captain has taken yet another step, and his speed, creativity, and vision have been very tough for SJHL D-men to stop in February. Nobody has more points in the month so far than Jaron, with 14 points through six games.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 2 G, 4 A, 6 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Riley Cormier, Yorkton Terriers
The Terriers’ defence-corps, perhaps outside of Ries, remains very underrated, and Cormier is one of those in that category. Physical and hard-nosed first, Cormier got into the scoring this past weekend as Yorkton scored 16 in two games against Estevan.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 1 G, 3 A, 4 PTS
Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Ben Laurette, Melville Millionaires
Whether it’s Laurette or Nick Genette in net, goals are hard to come by against Melville. The Mils nipped four big points from Kindersley this past weekend to remain undefeated through their four games of their six-game February home-stand and perfect in February. Laurette’s shutout Saturday was already his second through 11 SJHL starts.
Weekly Stats: 1 start, 1-0-0-0, 1.000 SV%, 0.00 GAA, 1 SO
IKS Media Rookie of the Week: Ryder Mucha, Flin Flon Bombers
It’s a different hero most nights for the Flin Flon Bombers, and a couple of good nights this past weekend for the ex-Tisdale Trojan vs. Notre Dame earned him his award. He’s a young man Mike Reagan has loved for a while, so it’s no surprise to see him thrive up in Flin Flon.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 3 PTS
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Koen Senft, Flin Flon Bombers (from Regina, Sask)
Senft has been consistent all year as a 200-foot player but finally broke a 12-game goalless drought last Friday at home to Notre Dame. The Regina native played his best in the biggest games for Canada West at the Junior A World Challenge in December, so the same can be expected from him as push comes to shove for the Bombers.
