PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Feb 26)

CANALTA SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Logan Schatz, Humboldt Broncos
1997 F Logan Schatz (Allan SK) erupted for 1-goal and 8-assists in 3-games played this past week as he led the Broncos to three consecutive victories.  Schatz had a goal and two helpers in a stunning 6-0 whitewash of Melfort last Monday.  He followed that up with three assists in a 7-3 win over La Ronge on Saturday.  Then, he sparked a comeback with two third period assists and a three point game in a 4-3 decision over the Ice Wolves on Saturday.  Schatz is second in the league in overall scoring with 22-goals and 62-assists in 55-games.  Runner-up:  Nick Shumlanski, Humboldt.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Josh McDougall, Nipawin Hawks
1998 D Josh McDougall (Prince Albert SK) boosted the Hawks to back to back wins over the Flin Flon Bombers on the weekend.  With four and a half minutes left in the third and the Hawks down 2-1, McDougall scored the tying goal and then, less than a minute later, set up the winner.  He had a goal and two assists one night later as the Hawks used a five-goal second period barrage in a 6-1 decision.  McDougall is fourth overall in league scoring with 17-goals and 53-assists in 51-games.  Runner-up:  Mike Eskra, Weyburn.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Colby Entz, Melville Millionaires
1998 G Colby Entz (Churchbridge SK) continued his hot play by posting a shutout, with a 28-save performance over La Ronge on Tuesday and then he backstopped the club to a 33-save effort in a win over Weyburn on Saturday.  Entz, who’s sparked a bit of a hot streak for the Mils down the stretch, hasn’t allowed more than 3 goals in a game since early December.  He’s 15-18-1-and-2 overall with a 2.79-GAA and .922-SPCT.  He has two shutouts.  Runner-up:  Justen Close, Kindersley.

MYSASK411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Will Van Der Sloot, Kindersley Klippers
1999 F Will Van Der Sloot (Medicine Hat AB) hit the scoresheet in three games, all wins, as the Klippers put themselves into position to claim the 6th seed heading into the playoffs.  Van Der Sloot scored twice in a 6-2 win at Notre Dame on Wednesday and then came home and contributed assists in each of their team’s two wins over the Yorkton Terriers.  Van Der Sloot has 9-goals and 8-assists in 46-games on the year.  Runner-up:  Jessie Young, Weyburn.
