SGEU MVP of the Week: Pavel Mackenzie, Yorkton Terriers

Despite both teams being at the bottom of the SJHL standings this year and on the verge of missing the 2023 SJHL playoffs, the Highway 10 rivalry was heated this past weekend between the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers. Yorkton swept the weekend series and a big reason why was the play of Pavel Mackenzie. In the two games against Melville, Mackenzie found the back of the net four times and added three helpers. This was highlighted by a four point (2 goals and 2 assists) afternoon Saturday as the Terriers beat the Mills 5-3. The rookie forward now has 14 goals and 13 assists this season.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Dazza Mitchell, Weyburn Red Wings

The Weyburn Red Wings are on the verge of clinching a playoff spot and goaltender Dazza Mitchell is doing everything in his power to get the team there. In a pair of games against the Kindersley Klippers this weekend, Mitchell allowed just two goals and recorded his first shutout of the season Sunday in a 2-0 win. The 18-year-old Regina, Saskatchewan product is now 17-10-0-1 on the year with a 2.77 GAA and a .917 SV%.

DirectWest Rookie of the Week: Jacob Ligi, Notre Dame Hounds

For the second time this year, Jacob Ligi has been named DirectWest Rookie of the Week. Ligi was huge this past week for the Notre Dame Hounds as they continue to keep their playoff hopes alive. The 18-year-old found the back of the net three times this past week in three games and added four assists as the Hounds went 2-1. Ligi’s week was highlighted by a four point night against the Weyburn Red Wings on Tuesday where he had a goal and three assists.

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Sam Kroon, Notre Dame Hounds

The Notre Dame Hounds still have a slight chance of making the post-season this year, but if it wasn’t for Sam Kroon’s goal with under a minute to go in their game against the Weyburn Red Wings this past week, their hopes would be evaporated. Like Ligi, Kroon had a big week for the Notre Dame Hounds, scoring the game winner against the Weyburn Red Wings and adding 4 assists from the back end.
