PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Feb 5)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Layne Young, Battlefords North Stars
1997 F Layne Young (Frenchman Butte SK) is the league scoring leader for the season and he continued his hot streak with three games in which he had two points in each contest.  He picked up a couple of helpers on Tuesday night against Kindersley and then went into the weekend with a goal and an assist on Friday against Estevan and then did the same on Saturday against Melville.  Young has 10-points in his last 4-games and now is up to 28-goals and 58-assists in 45-games.  Runner-up:  Daylan Marchi, Flin Flon.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Parker Tobin, Humboldt Broncos
1999 G Parker Tobin (Stony Plain AB) backstopped the Broncos to a pair of victories this past week, including a 24-save shutout of the Estevan Bruins on Tuesday.  He finished up with 31-stops against the Bruins on Saturday as Humboldt won 5-2.  Tobin, who splits time with Jacob Wassermann, is now 8-4-and-1 with a 2.34-GAA and .920-SPCT.  Runner-up:  Declan Hobbs, Nipawin.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Josh McDougall, Nipawin Hawks.
1998 D Josh McDougall (Prince Albert SK) continues to collect accolades.  The standout blueliner, who was also named the Defenseman Of The Month for January (as well as the CJHL Player Of The Month for December), scored two goals and two assists in a win over Yorkton on Tuesday night.  He finished the week with two assists in a Saturday night victory over Melfort.  McDougall has 15-goals and 43-assists in 44-games overall.  Runner-up:  Cody Spagrud, Battlefords.

MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Cade Kowalski, Weyburn Red Wings
1999 F Cade Kowalski (Morden MB) led all players with 7 assists in 3 games played this past week. The highlight was a four-helper game against Yorkton on Saturday night, one night after he picked up two assists against them on Friday evening.  He also had an assist Tuesday, at home, versus Notre Dame.  Kowalski leads all SJHL rookies in overall scoring with 9-goals and 41-assists in 46-games played.  Runner-up:  Jordan Kazymyra, Weyburn
