SGEU MVP of the Week: Will Munro, Weyburn Red Wings

The veteran power forward has been outstanding since his acquisition from Melfort earlier this year, and keeps getting better in red and white as we head down the home stretch of the season. His hat trick Friday vs. Humboldt was the first of his career, and he has points in five of his last six outings.

Week Stats: 3 GP – 3 G, 1 A – 4 PTS

Bourgault Forward of the Week: Raiden Zacharias, Battlefords North Stars

Zacharias has always been a goalscorer, so when he went on an extended run without finding the back of the net through December and January, it was likely a frustrating time for the 19-year-old from Saskatoon. He also must have felt a tremendous amount of relief to snap his 13-game goalless drought this past weekend, and did in style with three goals in a two-game set against the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Battlefords’ forward corps is as deep as anybody’s in the SJHL, and Raiden is a big part of that.

Week Stats: 3 GP – 3 G, 2 A – 5 PTS

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Raydr Wallington, Nipawin Hawks

That’s two weeks in a row the local boy from Nipawin has grabbed defenceman of the week. He has earned the opportunity to be a key piece on a resurgent Hawks’ power play, and has taken advantage of it in the last couple of contests. The 19-year-old has two points in his last three games in a row, impressive given he had only one career multi-point outing before last Friday, Jan. 16.

Week Stats: 2 GP – 2 G, 2 A – 4 PTS

SaskTel Goalie of the Week: Joey Rocha, Weyburn Red Wings

It turned a lot of heads at the trade deadline when the Wings were able to nab Rocha from Swift Current in the Western Hockey League. The start to his SJHL career was on the slower side, but after two shutout wins this past week, against Kindersley and Humboldt, the Weyburn faithful hope he has found his groove.

Week Stats: 3-0-0-0, 1.33 GAA, .961 SV%, 2 shutouts

SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Cole Hines, Battlefords North Stars

Every week, there seems to be a new North Star popping up, grabbing headlines, and currently on a six-game point streak, Hines is just the latest one. With goals in four of his last six contests, including in his first two-goal game Friday vs. La Ronge, the skill from the Lloydminster, AB native is starting to shine through. Playing with league superstars Anthony Campbell and Josh Knittig probably doesn’t hurt him either.

Week Stats: 3 GP – 3 G, 2 A – 5 PTS

Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Josh Knittig, Battlefords North Stars (from Saskatoon, Sask)

Knittig and Campbell have gone back and forth leading the North Stars in points, and after two three-point nights against La Ronge this weekend, it’s Josh’s turn again. The speedy Saskatoon native has been incredibly consistent throughout his Battlefords career, posting 84 points in 87 games without always playing the leading role, and his heavy style with under-appreciated skill fits right into the ‘Saskatchewan hockey player’ mould.

Week Stats: 3 GP – 1 G, 5 A – 6 PTS
