PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Jan 7)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Chantz Petruic, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Chantz Petruic (Moose Jaw SK) continued his remarkable season in stunning fashion this past week as he scored 6-goals and 9-assists in just 4-games played.  The highlight was on Friday night when Petruic factored in on every goal during Yorkton’s third period rally to beat the Humboldt Broncos 7-6 in which Petruic scored twice and set up five others and one of his goals was the overtime winner.   Petruic has scored two goals in each of the last three games and his goal in the dying moments on Saturday was his 50th of the year in game number 43.  He has 94-points on the year, which 28 more than the second leading point getter in the league.  Runner-up:  Jayden Davis, Estevan.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Tylor Ludwar, Estevan Bruins
1999 D Tylor Ludwar (Regina SK) helped the Bruins post three straight victories this past week by scoring 2-goals and 3-assists.  Ludwar got the scoring started in the first period of a 7-1 win over the Weyburn Red Wings on Monday and then had a powerplay assist on the game winning goal in the third period of a 5-2 win over the Wings on New Year’s Day.  He capped it with a goal and an assist in a win over Melville on Saturday to bring his overall season totals to 2-goals and 9-assists in 26-games.  Runner-up:  Seth Summers, Battlefords.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Keenan Rancier, Estevan Bruins
2000 G Keenan Rancier (Victoria BC) backstopped the Bruins to three straight wins this past week, allowing just four goals in three games played.  He wasn’t overly busy in the two games against Weyburn, stopping 19-of-20 and 17-of-19 before finishing up against Melville on Saturday with 32-saves on 33-shots, giving him a .944-SPCT for the week.  Overall, Rancier is the league leader amongst goalies in minutes played and is tied for second in wins at 16 to go on his ledger of 16-13-2-and-1.  He has a tidy 2.68-GAA and .919-SPCT  as the Bruins set their sights on first place in the Viterra Division.  Runner-up:  Jacob Delorme, Flin Flon.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Griffin Asham-Moroz, Estevan Bruins
2001 F Griffin Asham-Moroz (East St Paul MB) picked up three goals in three games played this past week, including denting the twine twice in a convincing win over the Melville Millionaires on Saturday night.  Asham-Moroz also scored in Monday’s win over Weyburn and is on a nice run since the end of November, totalling 7-goals and 5-assists in his last 11-games.  He ranks fourth in SJHL rookie scoring overall with 13-goals and 14-assists in 33-games played.  Runner-up:  Brett Legrandeur, Yorkton.
