PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Jan 8)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Chad McCartney, Nipawin Hawks
1998 F Chad McCartney (Edson AB) is the latest Hawks player to step up his play.  McCartney scored two goals and five assists in two games.  McCartney scored one and set up another in a 5-1 win over La Ronge on Friday and then picked up a goal and four assists in an 8-1 win one night later.  He has 9-goals and 18-assists in 36-games this season.  Runner-up:  Cade Kowalski, Weyburn.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Mike Eskra, Weyburn Red Wings
1997 D Mike Eskra (Regina SK) set up five goals in three games played this past week.  Included in that was two helpers on New Year’s Day, factoring in on both of his club’s goals against Estevan.  He also had two assists in a 3-2 win over Humboldt as well as an assist in an overtime loss to Melfort.  For the season, Eskra has 6-goals and 27-assists in 37-games.  Runner-up:  Isaac Jackson, Flin Flon.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Parker Tobin, Humboldt Broncos
1999 G Parker Tobin (Stony Plain AB) split his two starts this past week, but he blocked 52-of-56 shots in his two road appearances.  He made 29-saves in a 3-2 loss in Weyburn on Friday and then turned away 23-shots in a 2-1 overtime victory against Estevan on Saturday.  Tobin in 3-and-2 in seven games since being acquired in a trade earlier this year.  He has a GAA of 2.21 and a SPCT of .924.  Runner-up:  Bo Didur, Estevan.

MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Cody Bruchkowski, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Cody Bruchkowski (Cochenour ON) led the Terriers this past week with 4-goals and 2-assists in two games played, including a 2-goal performance on Monday afternoon that sparked a comeback against Melville, enabling the Terriers to pick up the victory.  Up in Flin Flon over the weekend, he had another 2-goals and 2-assists in 2-games played.  Bruchkowski has 14-goals and 17-assists in 32-games overall.  Runner-up:  Austin Mikesch, Nipawin.
