CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Owen Lamb, Battlefords North Stars
1998 F Owen Lamb (North Battleford SK) helped his hometown team move into first place in the Global Ag Risks Solutions Division over the weekend by scoring 3-goals and 2-assists in 2-games played, boosting his overall numbers to 28-goals and 27-assists in 55-games. Lamb picked up two goals and one assist in a 6-3 win over Notre Dame Friday and then he scored one and set up another in an 9-6 shoot out with Humboldt on Saturday. Lamb, who some see as the heart and soul of the Stars, has picked up the pace since the injury to Mattias Urbanski, scoring 9-goals and 12-assists in 12-games in his absence. Runner-up: Josh Borynec, Melville.
SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Colten Gerlib, Nipawin Hawks
1999 D Colten Gerlib (Kamloops BC) picked up two assists in two hard fought games against Melfort over the weekend as the Hawks earned three of a possible four points and took back control of top spot in the Sherwood Division heading into the final game of the regular season. Gerlib set up two of his team’s goals in the shootout loss on Friday night and then logged plenty of minutes and was a tough one-on-one performer on Saturday at the Northern Lights Palace, helping his team earn a shutout victory. For the year, Gerlib has 5-goals and 16-assists in 49-games played. Runner-up: Tim Gould, Notre Dame.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Noah Giesbrecht, Melfort Mustangs
1999 G Noah Giesbrecht (South Surrey BC) split his two games this past week, but he made 54-saves on 56-shots in the process. Tuesday, he made 35-saves in a 4-1 win against Notre Dame as the Mustangs were outshot 36-20. Saturday, he made 19-saves on 20-shots in a 3-0 loss to Nipawin (two empty net goals), with the only goal being scored against him coming late in the third period when he appeared to have the puck frozen against the post with his skate, only to have it knocked in on the second and third effort. Giesbrecht is 6-2-and-1 with a 2.95-GAA and .912-SPCT since arriving in a January trade from the MJHL. Runner-up: Gabriel Waked, Flin Flon.
DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Quintin Loon-Stewardson, Battlefords North Stars
2000 F Quintin Loon-Stewardson (Sioux Lookout ON) fired 3-goals and 1-assist in 2-games played as the North Stars won both match-ups. Loon-Stewardson had two goals and one assist in the Notre Dame game and then scored again against Humboldt. He has 14-goals and 14-assists in 50-games played on the year, but he has really come into his own as of late, scoring 7-goals and 8-assists in 21-games since the New Year. Runner-up: Luke Spadafora, Melville.
