PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Mar 5)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Tristen Elder, Melfort Mustangs
1997 F Tristen Elder (Kinistino SK) was a key contributor for the Mustangs in back to back wins over the Nipawin Hawks this weekend.  Elder’s big game was on Saturday when he picked up a goal and three assists in a 9-2 thrashing over the league leading club.  One night earlier, Elder picked up a goal and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win.  He also had an assist against Kindersley last Wednesday.  Since joining Melfort, Elder has 11-goals and 21-assists in 30-games played.  Overall, he is up to 11-goals and 28-assists in 39-games split between Melfort and Humboldt.  Runner-up:  Kaelan Holt, Estevan.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Loch Morrison, Melfort Mustangs
1997 D Loch Morrison (Prince Albert SK) has had an incredible season and he lit up the scoresheet with a goal and eight helpers in three games played last week, as the Mustangs won back to back against Nipawin and lost in extra time to Kindersley.  Morrison had 1-goal and 4-assists in a blow out win on Saturday over the Hawks and then picked up 2-assists in each of the previous two games.  Morrison will head to Nova Scotia this Fall to play for Acadia, under the watchful eye of former Mustang coach Kevin Dickie, who’s the Athletic Director at the school.  He has 19-goals and 47-assists in 54-games this year.  Runner-up:  Calvon Boots, Flin Flon.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Taryn Kotchorek, Battlefords North Stars
1997 G Taryn Kotchorek (North Battleford SK) stymied the Humboldt Broncos this weekend, turning away 41 of 43 shots in two games played against them.  In Friday’s match-up, Kotchorek had 26-saves in what ended up being a 2-1 shootout decision.  The next night, he wasn’t as busy in making 16-stops in a more lopsided result.  For the year, Kotchorek is 18-8-and-2 with a 2.31-GAA and .919-SPCT.  He also has five shutouts, fourteen for his career (believed to be an all-time league record).  Runner-up:  Bo Didur, Estevan.

MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Ethan Daniels, Flin Flon Bombers
1998 F Ethan Daniels (Fairbanks AK USA) sparked the Bombers to a pair of wins and a shootout loss on a four game road trip this past week by scoring 2-goals and 3-assists.  Daniels had a pair of helpers in an overtime victory over Melville on Wednesday.  He scored and set up another in a win over Notre Dame on Friday, and then got an assist to end the trip in Estevan on Saturday.  Daniels has 15-goals and 16-assists in 54-games on the year.  Runner-up:  Cade Kowalski, Weyburn.
