SGEU MVP of the Week: Dane Probe, Notre Dame Hounds

While the Notre Dame Hounds won’t be heading to the playoffs, the final 8 days of the regular season may have felt like the post-season based off of their schedule and how busy the team was. In five games over that stretch, 19-year-old Dane Probe 6 goals and 6 assists. This was highlighted by a 6 point night against the Melville Millionaires on Monday. Probe finished the regular season with 18 goals and 27 assists for the Hounds. This is also the first time Probe has been named SGEU MVP of the Week this season.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Joel Favreau, Melfort Mustangs

The lone team heading into the 2023 SJHL Playoffs with a goaltender who has started a playoff game in the SJHL is the Melfort Mustangs, and it appears 20-year-old Joel Favreau is getting into fine form ahead of his final playoff run in Junior hockey. In two games this past week, Favreau allowed just 3 goals, helped the Mustangs secure home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs with two wins, and earn a shutout. The pride of Prince Alberta, Saskatchewan finished the regular season 3rd in GAA in the SJHL at 2.56.

DirectWest Rookie of the Week: Jackson Allen, Battlefords North Stars

The top scorers of the Battlefords North Stars have made a lot of headlines this season, but quietly having a great rookie season for the Stars has been rookie centre Jackson Allen. In a pair of games against the Kindersley Klippers this past weekend, Allen registered five points in a pair of lopsided wins. The 18-year-old Davidson, Saskatchewan product finished the regular season 7th in rookie scoring with 9 goals and 22 assists.

SuperU Defenseman of the Week: Liam Hunks, Notre Dame Hounds 

It was a big week on the blue line for one of Notre Dame’s newest defenseman. 18-year-old Liam Hunks was tied for the most points this past week amongst blue-liners and since joining the Hounds has provided not only production from the backend, but also steady defense. In five games this past week Hunks found the back of the net twice and added four assists. In 24 games played with the Hounds, Hunks registered 5 goals and 9 assists.
