SGEU MVP of the Week: Cole Duperreault, Flin Flon Bombers

It was a busy week for the Flin Flon Bombers as they played four games away from the Whitney Forum. The Bombers finished the week with 5 out of a possible 8 points and playing a big part in the successful week was the play of forward Cole Duperreault. The 20-year-old Martensville product finished the week with 4 goals and 4 assists, which was highlighted by a four point afternoon Sunday against the Humboldt Broncos which saw him net a hat trick and earn an assist. In 21 games played this season, Duperreault has 16 goals and 15 assists, which has him in 5th in SJHL scoring.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Josh Kotai, Battlefords North Stars

There was no goalie busier than Josh Kotai of the Battlefords North Stars this past weekend. In two games against the Flin Flon Bombers, Kotai was peppered with 114 shots in two games, making 109 saves combined in two wins. His busiest game was Friday night where the 19-year-old goaltender made 58 saves in a 5-2 win. Kotai continues to be one of the top goaltenders in the SJHL, leading the league in both Goals Against Average and Save Percentage.

Directwest Rookie of the Week: Jacob Ligi, Notre Dame Hounds

The Notre Dame Hounds split their games this past week and in their 5-1 win over the Yorkton Terriers, it was rookie Jacob Ligi who played a massive part in the Hounds earning two points on the road. Ligi had 3 assists Friday night in Yorkton which was his largest offensive output in one games this season. He also had an assist in Notre Dame’s 6-2 loss to Humboldt. In 22 games played this season, the 18-year-old has 2 goals and 12 assists and is currently tied for 6th in SJHL scoring among rookies.

Defenceman of the Week: Parker Layton, La Ronge Ice Wolves

The La Ronge Ice Wolves win streak is up to 6 games following a pair of wins over the Weyburn Red Wings. During this win streak, the Ice Wolves have got contributions from up and down their line-up and one player who stepped up this weekend was Defenceman Parker Layton. The 19-year-old from La Ronge is in his 2nd season with the Ice Wolves and not only did he play solid defensively for the club this past weekend, he contributed a goal and an assist. Layton now has 2 goals and 9 assists on the season.
