SGEU MVP of the Week: Ewan Rennie, Estevan Bruins
The Bruins have scored 21 goals in the last three games, three victories, and the veteran Rennie has counted for four goals and six assists over those three contests. He makes little intelligent plays in the offensive zone that very few others in the league can, and his partnership with Rylan Williams and Cash Olson has been money in the bank for Estevan.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 2 G, 5 A – 7 PTS
Bourgault Forward of the Week: Brendan Olson, Nipawin Hawks
The Hawks’ offensive production has started slowly, but it’s really coming now for a team expected to fly. Olson’s addition from Melville has been an absolutely perfect fit, as the veteran has posted a two-points-per-game clip since his arrival at the cage, with the forechecking and physical jam Tad Kozun was looking for from the winger.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 0 G, 5 A – 5 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Hudson Gainer, Nipawin Hawks
Two awards to two recent additions for Nipawin. The 18-year-old Gainer came from Drumheller in the AJHL to add some pure offensive punch from the back end and has produced right away, behind a Hawks’ club that is starting to show what it can do.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 1 G, 2 A – 3 PTS
SaskTel Goaltender of the Week: Gage Roberts, Nipawin Hawks
This marks two weeks in a row that the Hawks’ goaltender has earned the SaskTel Goaltender of the Week nod, and after two wins this week that pushed his personal start win streak to four games, he has moved into the league’s Top 4 in goals-against average and save percentage. His nine victories are also second in the SJHL. After a tough start to November, his last three starts have been above .929 in the save percentage department.
Week Stats: 2-0-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .952 SV%, 60 Saves
SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Finn Werner, Flin Flon Bombers
It is a small sample size for the 17-year-old Everett Silvertips (WHL) prospect, but solid, if not flashy, wins in Warman and Melfort reflect his talent and composure. The Bombers are the hottest team in the league right now, with eight wins in their last nine, but even if the team is playing well in front, the goalie still needs to make the saves. To what degree is one so young the answer in net in Flin Flon? Only time will tell.
Week Stats: 2-0-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .930 SV%
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Jye Zawatsky, Yorkton Terriers (Yorkton, SK)
It surely has been an up-and-down year for the Terriers, but their top line of Zawatsky on the left with Gabrielle Courchesne and William Leonard has been outstanding from the start. The local Zawatsky has been a consistent producer for the Terriers whenever he’s been healthy, and now that he’s not behind more veteran names like he was in past seasons, he is showing his quality.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 1 G, 4 A – 5 PTS
