CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Isaiah Thomas, Estevan Bruins
2000 F Isaiah Thomas (Bismarck ND USA) busted out during a four game road trip this past week, firing 4-goals and 2-assists to help the Bruins emerge 2-and-2. Thomas scored a pair at Kindersley on Tuesday in a 4-1 victory and then scored on Friday in a loss to Battlefords before finishing the week by doing more damage against the Klippers, picking up a goal and two assists in an overtime win. Thomas is up to 10-goals and 8-assists in 23-games overall, good for second on the team. During the month of November, he has 9-points in his last 8-games. Runner-up: Liam Fraser, Kindersley.
MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Brendon Borbely, Kindersley Klippers
1999 D Brendon Borbely (Okotoks AB) erupted and provided offense across all three games played this past week, scoring 4-goals and 1-assist as the Klippers ended up garnering three of a possible six points in the standings. He scored his team’s only goal, on the powerplay, in a 4-1 loss to Estevan on Tuesday and then contributed a goal in a win over Weyburn on Friday. Saturday, he scored twice-one of which was the tying goal that forced overtime-and set up another as part of an overtime defeat at the hands of the Bruins. For the season, Borbely has 5-goals and 5-assists in 27-games. Runner-up: Seth Summers, Battlefords.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Ouellette, Yorkton Terriers
2000 G Ryan Ouellette (Colorado Springs CO USA) returned from the NAHL towards the end of October and he’s been the top netminder in the SJHL ever since, and that includes two more excellent performances this past week in which he turned away 29-of-30 in a win at Notre Dame before turning in a sensational effort with 36-saves in a 3-2 shootout decision over La Ronge on Friday. He is 8-1-and-1 on the year with a league leading 1.88-GAA and a league leading SPCT of .951. Runner-up: Liam McGarva, La Ronge.
DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Brendan Forman, Humboldt Broncos
2001 G Brendan Forman (Vernon BC) has become a work horse goaltender for the Broncos in his rookie Junior A season and he registered a 2-0-0-and-1 record this past week as he blocked 37-of-38 against Estevan on Wednesday night and then wasn’t as busy, but just as sharp, in stopping 21-of-22 in a win over Weyburn one night later. He finished the week with two solid periods of relief in a shootout loss to Notre Dame on Saturday to end up at 1.13-GAA and .956-SPCT. For the season, he’s 12-5-2-and-1 with a 2,83-GAA and .910-SPCT. In the month of November, he’s second to La Ronge’s Liam McGarva in minutes played. Runner-up: Braden Birnie, Weyburn Red Wings.
