PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Nov 4)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Chantz Petruic, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Chantz Petruic (Moose Jaw SK) scored 2-goals and 6-assists in three games played last week and he factored in on 67% of all Terrier goals this past week.  Petruic set-up a pair in a shutout of Weyburn on Wednesday and then contributed a goal and three helpers as part of a shootout win at Kindersley on Friday. He was in on both goals (1-1-2) at Battlefords in an overtime loss on Saturday.  Petruic is starting to distance himself from the other elite players in the league and has opened up a 6-point lead atop the scoring parade as he has 19-goals and 21-assists in 20-games. Runner-up: Jared Hamm, Notre Dame.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  James Philpott, La Ronge Ice Wolves
2000 D James Philpott (Calgary AB) was traded mid-week and burned his former team, the Melville Millionaires, with three assists on Friday night in his La Ronge debut.  In his final game with Melville, he picked up a goal and an assist against Notre Dame and then he capped the week with a goal at Humboldt on Saturday to finish the week with 2-goals and 4-assists in 3-games.  Philpott has 1-goal and 3-assists in 2-games with the Ice Wolves and is 19-2-15-17 overall. Runner-up: Matthew Fletcher, Battlefords.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Liam McGarva, La Ronge Ice Wolves
2000 G Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan AB) got back in the win column this week by posting back to back wins over Melville and Humboldt as the Ice Wolves put themselves back into playoff position if the postseason were to start today.  McGarva turned away 28-of-30 shots in a 5-2 decision over the Millionaires on Friday and then 31-of-32 on Saturday in a 5-1 win over the Broncos. McGarva had suffered through a 1-2-and-2 stretch over his previous five games before these victories and he’s now 8-5-and-2, 3.10, .911, 2SO on the year.  Runner-up: Ryan Ouellette, Yorkton.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Colby Brett, Melfort Mustangs
2001 D Colby Brett (Phoenix AZ USA) scored a goal and two assists in a weekend home and home series with Flin Flon as the Mustangs ended up collecting four points in the standings.  Brett assisted on his team’s final goal of the night on Friday and then helped setup one and scored one in a span of three minutes as part of a three goal barrage in the first period on Saturday as Melfort posted an overtime win.  For the year, Brett has 1-goal and 5-assists in 19-games. Runner-up: Aaron Greyeyes, La Ronge.
