PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Oct 16)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Zach Goberis, Estevan Bruins
1997 F Zach Goberis (Arvada CO) continued his assault on SJHL goaltenders last week by firing 6-goals in 3-games played, increasing his SJHL scoring lead to 16-goals and 12-assists in 13-games played.  Goberis had a goal in Yorkton on Tuesday, added two more Thursday in a win over La Ronge, and then finished the week with a hat trick on Sunday versus Flin Flon.  He already has seven games of three points or more and enters the week with a five point lead ahead of teammate Michael McChesney in overall scoring race.  Runner-up:  Chance Longjohn, Notre Dame.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Loch Morrison, Melfort Mustangs
1997 D Loch Morrison (Prince Albert SK) led all players (forwards and defensemen) in points this past week by compiling 4-goals and 4-assists in 3-games.  Morrison burned the Melville Millionaires for a hat trick and five points on Wednesday night.  He picked up a goal and an assist in the first half of a home and home set with Humboldt on Friday.  He put up a helper on Saturday against the Broncos as well.  He has 8-goals and 8-assists in 13-games overall.  Runner-up:  Erik Olson, Weyburn.

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Evan Plotnik, Melfort Mustangs
1997 G Evan Plotnik (Capistrano Beach CA) turned in identical 30-save efforts this past week, allowing just two goals to post a 0.96-GAA and .967-SPCT.  Plotnik was nine minutes away from shutting out the Melville Millionaires on Wednesday and his only blemish on Saturday was an early first period goal against Humboldt, a game in which the Broncos would defeat the Mustangs in a shootout.  Plotnik has been cruising all season with a 1.80-GAA and .934-SPCT.  Runner-up:  Declan Hobbs, Nipawin.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Jordan Kazymyra, Weyburn Red Wings
1999 F Jordan Kazymyra (Regina SK) had 3-goals and 1-assist in 3-games played last week, helping the Red Wings boost their overall win streak to five games.  He potted a pair in a win over La Ronge on Wednesday and then was a force on a line with Jeremy Velazquez and Landon Walters by adding a goal and an assist on Saturday as the Wings downed Flin Flon.  Overall, He’s up to 3-goals and 3-assists in 9-games.  Runner-up:  Cade Kowalski, Weyburn.
