PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Oct 22)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Matthias Urbanski, Battlefords North Stars
1998 F Matthias Urbanski (Oliver BC) rattled off a 7-point week as the Stars swept two games from the La Ronge Ice Wolves.  Urbanski boosted his overall season totals to 10-goals and 9-assists in 13-games. On Wednesday, Urbanski had two goals and one assist on each of his team’s first three goals as the North Stars downed LaRonge 4-0.  On Friday, he picked up a goal and three helpers in what ended up being a 9-6 offensive shootout between the two teams. Runner-up: Bryce Platt, Estevan.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Cody Dubas, Yorkton Terriers
1999 D Cody Dubas (Rama SK) had his best offensive week as a junior, scoring a goal and three assists in three games played as the Terriers continued their winning ways, picking up victories in two of the three games.  Dubas had two apples in a win over Notre Dame on Wednesday and then scored on Friday as the Terriers fell in the first of two at the Whitney Forum. Dubas then had an assist on Saturday in a 5-4 win. For the year, he has 1-goal and 5-assists in 14-games and is well on pace to set career highs, offensively, in his third year as a Terrier.  Runner-up: Charles Martin, Notre Dame.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Grant Boldt, Estevan Bruins
2000 G Grant Boldt (Detroit Lakes MN) made the most of his playing time in the crease and earned two victories, stopping 56-of-58 shots in the process.  33 of those saves came on Saturday in a win over the Nipawin Hawks. One night earlier, he made 23-stops in shutting down the Melfort Mustangs. Boldt has a 1.21 GAA in his last four appearances and is 2-and-2 with a 2.29-GAA and .922-SPCT this season.  Runner-up: Declan Hobbs, Nipawin.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Luke Spadafora, Humboldt Broncos
2000 F Luke Spadafora (Calgary AB) picked up points in each of his team’s three games this past week, including an assist on the only Bronco goal in a loss to Kindersley on Wednesday.  Friday, Spadafora notched the overtime winner against Melville. Saturday, he scored once and set up another in a 6-3 decision over the Millionaires. He has 7-points in his last 7-games and 3-goals and 10-assists in 15-games on the year.  Runner-up: Isaiah Thomas, Estevan.
