SGEU MVP of the Week: Charlie Tritt, Humboldt Broncos
Two more wins, both over Kindersley, and Tritt has won seven starts in a row. Many wondered how the Broncos would fill the skates of the legendary Dazza Mitchell…to say Tritt has been the answer is a vast understatement.
Week Stats: 2-0-0-0 – 1.44 GAA, .939 SV%, seventh win in a row
Bourgault Forward of the Week: Tristin Ziola, Melfort Mustangs
Ziola, fresh off a terrific SJHL post-season and Centennial Cup a year ago, had not scored a goal since Game 1 of the season. So, to bust out for two goals and an assist Saturday against Warman to go into the Western All-Star Challenge with confidence is huge. No matter what Ziola contributes offensively, he is a massive piece of Trevor Blevins’ puzzle with the Mustangs.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 2G, 2 A – 4 pts
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Ethan Andrews, Estevan Bruins
Andrews scored two very lovely, big goals Saturday against their Highway 39 rival, Weyburn Red Wings, and has been outstanding all season while playing around 27 minutes a night on a (at one point) very young Estevan blue line. He now has veteran help, so expect his incredible pace to continue. Andrews sits second in league scoring among defencemen at the time of writing.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 3 G, 0 A – 3 pts
SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Cash Lanigan, Yorkton Terriers
His first career hat trick this past week against Battlefords is not even the whole picture for Lanigan this past week. Physical, plays hard and well in all situations, there is a strong argument that Lanigan is the best 2008-born player in the league.
Week Stats: 2 GP – 3 G, 1 A – 4 pts
SaskTel Goalie of the Week: Callum Creig, Yorkton Terriers
It has been an up-and-down year for Creig, but when he’s on, like he was this past weekend, he’s as stingy as anybody in this league. He has now won three in a row and four of his last five.
Week Stats: 2-0-0-0 – 1.49 GAA, .949 SV%, 56 saves
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Jye Zawatsky, Yorkton Terriers (Yorkton, Sask.)
Zawatsky scored three goals in the last two games, both big wins for his hometown team. The veteran has points in eight of his last nine and has been one of the underrated stars of the league so far this year. His line with Gabrielle Courchensne and William Leonard has been on fire as a group.
Week Stats: 3 GP – 3 G, 2 A – 5 pts
