PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Oct 30)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Ben Hiltz, Weyburn Red Wings
1999 F Ben Hiltz (Weyburn SK) had his best week in what has been a break out season, scoring 3-goals and 6-assists in 4-games last week, all games being played on the road.  Hiltz had, identical, one goal and two assist games in Melfort and La Ronge mid-week.  He set up two more in a win at Flin Flon on Friday and then picked up his team’s only goal on Saturday at Nipawin. He now has 9-goals and 10-assists in 13-games on the year.  Runner-up:  MacGregor Sinclair, Battlefords.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Erik Olson, Weyburn Red Wings
1997 D Erik Olson (Delta BC) scored four goals and two assists in four road games last week as the Red Wings managed three wins out of four games on their northern swing.  Olson scored twice and set up another in an 8-2 win in La Ronge on Thursday and then scored two more in Flin Flon one night later as the Wings won 4-2.  He also had an assist to kick off the week in Melfort.  The offensive minded rearguard now has 7-goals and 10-assists 15-games.  Runner-up:  Levi Klieboer, Battlefords.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Declan Hobbs, Nipawin Hawks
1998 G Declan Hobbs (Saskatoon SK) won both of his home starts over the weekend, turning away 47 of 50 shots in victories against Notre Dame (31 saves in a 4-2 decision) and Weyburn (16 saves in a 4-1 win).  Hobbs, who has 30 games experience in the WHL, upped his record to 6-and-1 with a 2.15-GAA and .917-SPCT with his solid performance this week.  Runner-up:  Carter Phair, Weyburn.

MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Cade Kowalski, Weyburn Red Wings
1999 F Cade Kowalski (Morden MB) sparked the Red Wings’ offense by contributing points in each of their four road games this past week.  Kowalski had a goal and an assist in each game on Wednesday, in Melfort, and then again one night later in La Ronge.  He had an assist in a win at Flin Flon on Friday and then an assist on his team’s only goal Saturday in Nipawin to finish with two goals and four assists in four games played.  He now has 5-goals and 10-assists in 15-games overall.  Runner-up:  Logan Hunter, Humboldt.
