SGEU MVP of the Week: Jaxson Ruthven, Weyburn Red Wings
Ruthven did not miss a beat this past week after his return from the North American Hockey League. On Saturday, he scored a hat trick and a five-point game in a big win over Yorkton. The Wings have won all three games he’s played in (as well as fellow returnee Jerome Maharaj) this year and have averaged 6.3 goals per game as a club over that span.
Weekly Stats: 3GP, 4G-4A, 8 PTS
Bourgault Forward of the Week: Jacob Strizzi, Humboldt Broncos
Strizzi scored once in his first three games of the year and has nine goals in a six-game scoring streak since. The league’s goal leader added two-goal games this past weekend in the Broncos’ home-and-home with the Battlefords North Stars. His partnership with fellow Torontonian Boris Kofman atop the Humboldt line-up has been electric this year.
Weekly Stats: 3GP, 5G-3A, 8 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Max Chakrabarti, Weyburn Red Wings
The 19-year-old from Surrey, BC, ran over the KIJHL with Creston Valley last year, and that ability to produce offence from the back end has translated seamlessly to the SJHL. He was one of many Wings flying in Friday night’s dominant 7-1 win at a neutral-site game in Assiniboia vs. the Notre Dame Hounds.
Weekly Stats: 3GP, 1G-2A, 3 PTS
Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Angelo Zol, Weyburn Red Wings
A win-and-you-keep-the-net situation in Weyburn has suited Zol since October began, as the Kelowna kid has been brilliant most of the year. He has only one start of six, with a save percentage under .918. This past week, he was in the net for every minute of the Wings’ three wins.
Weekly Stats: 3-0-0-0, 2.33 GAA, .936 SV%, 103 saves
IKS Media Rookie of the Week: Brett O’Halloran, Kindersley Klippers
The 2006-born rookie out of Calgary has started seven of the Klippers’ nine games so far, but if he’s felt any fatigue or pressure, he surely has not shown it. O’Halloran was in net for both of Kindersley’s wins this past week, at home against Notre Dame and Estevan, and in both games, his ability to make the clutch save at the right moment shone. Whenever Cody Jaman returns, the Klips are sure to have as lethal as 1A, 1B situation anyone in the SJHL.
Weekly Stats: 2-0-0-0, 1.92 GAA, .931 SV%, 54 saves
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Caden Drury, Melville Millionaires (from Carrot River, Sask)
That’s two Sask Player of the Week awards out of three on the year for Melville’s star, and good reason, as the league leader in points has found in the scoresheet in every one of the Mils’ nine games so far. Melville’s first-line centre had multi-point games at home to Weyburn and away at La Ronge this past week.
Weekly Stats: 3GP, 2G-3A, 5 PTS
