SGEU MVP of the Week: Kason Kobelka, Melfort Mustangs

For Melfort so far, it’s no Madden Mulawka, no problem. There is no doubt that Kobelka has been the best rookie goaltender in the league so far, and perhaps the best rookie and best goalie, period. He proved it again with two dominant performances against a Battlefords North Stars offence that had averaged well over four goals a game heading into the weekend. This 2007 goaltender is legit.
Weekly Stats: 2-0-0-0, 51 saves, 1 SO, 0.96 GAA, .962 SV%

Bourgault Forward of the Week: Rylan Williams, Estevan Bruins

Estevan’s results so far this year have been mixed, but Williams’ performances have not. The league’s leader in points started the week with a monster four-point performance at home vs Yorkton, and bookended it with an overtime winner in La Ronge. If the Bruins as a team can find success this year, the veteran from Kyle, SK, will be right in the middle of it.
Weekly Stats: 4 GP – 3 G, 3A – 6 PTS

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Thomas Ries, Yorkton Terriers

The Terriers needed a good weekend after a slow start (literally, as in they did not play many games, and results-wise), and they got it this past weekend with two statement wins over the Humboldt Broncos. As usual, when things go well for Yorkton, Ries is front and centre. The 2006-born defender has averaged around 24 minutes per game so far for Yorkton, using his speed and strength to dominate in all three zones. A few points never hurt anybody either.
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 2 G, 1 A, 3 PTS

SaskTel Goalie of the Week: Gage Roberts, Nipawin Hawks

As Gage Roberts goes, so go the Nipawin Hawks, and after a weekend that put the Hawks in the national rankings for the first time in what feels like years, it makes sense that the second-year man is an award winner. Two terrific outings this week, highlighted by a staunch 36-save effort in a win at an always-tough CN Community Centre in Melville.
Weekly Stats: 2-0-0-0, 65 saves, 1.50 GAA, .956 SV%

SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Kale Johns, Yorkton Terriers

The Lumsden native was one of the pieces back to Yorkton in the great Clay Sleeva to Melfort deal from a couple of years ago, and after a solid season with the Maulers U18AAA, Johns is someone really high on Coach Emery Olauson’s radar. Two of his goals, including his first career SJHL marker, came in Humboldt, and he got another one the next night as well. Like the Terriers, it looks like Johns’ season is finally up and running.
Weekly Stats: 2 GP, 3 G, 0 A, 3 PTS

Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Kale Margolis, Melville Millionaires (from Kinistino, Sask)

Sometimes it takes an adjustment period for a new player in town, but that has not been the case at all for Margolis, fresh off his arrival in Melville from the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. The power forward has points in all three of his Mils games so far, and included a three-point night at home on Friday. Looks to be a massive pickup for Doug Johnson and co.
Weekly Stats: 3 GP, 1 G, 5 A, 6 PTS
