Players of the Week (Sept 30)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Quintin Loon-Stewardson, Battlefords North Stars
2000 F Quintin Loon-Stewardson (Sioux Lookout ON) has found his stride early on as he turned heads in the scouting community at the Showcase by ripping home three goals on Tuesday in a dominating win over the Flin Flon Bombers.  Loon-Stewardson then contributed to a pair of North Star wins on the weekend as he had a goal and two helpers in a 4-1 decision on Friday and then a goal and an assist on Saturday as the Stars completed a weekend sweep of the La Ronge Ice Wolves.  For the year, Loon-Stewardson is up to 8-goals and 4-assists in 7-games played.  Runner-up:  Logan Foster, Humboldt.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Shawn Parkinson, Melfort
1999 G Shawn Parkinson (Victoria BC) backstopped the Mustangs to a pair of victories last week and they are looking to build on a six game win streak overall.  Parkinson turned away 32-shots last Tuesday morning in a 6-2 win over the Yorkton Terriers and then he got the call again on Saturday night and allowed only a third period shorthanded goal in a 3-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds.  For the season, Parkinson is 4-and-2 with a 2.18-GAA and .935-SPCT.  Runner-up:  Liam McGarva, La Ronge.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Matthew Fletcher, Battlefords North Stars
1999 D Matthew Fletcher (Saskatoon SK) helped the Stars secure three wins last week by contributing 6-assists and further cementing his place amongst the elite blueliners of the SJHL.  Fletcher had a hand in four goals against Flin Flon on Tuesday and then had two more assists in a win over La Ronge on Saturday to boost his season totals to 1-goal and 7-assists in 7-games played.  Runner-up:  Devan Harrison, Estevan.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Ben Tkachuk, Melfort Mustangs
2002 F Ben Tkachuk (Gronlid sK) registered his first points as an SJHLer this past week, contributing 1-goal and 3-assists over the course of three games played.  It started on Tuesday morning when he set up a goal in a win over Yorkton.  He did the same thing on Friday, on home ice, as the Mustangs defeated Notre Dame.  Then to finish off the home and home set, Tkachuk had a goal and an assist, at Wilcox as the Mustangs posted yet another victory.  Runner-up:  Michael Harroch, Humboldt.
