In back to back days, the top two scorers in the SJHL this season landed commitments to USPORTS schools in Eastern Canada.

Just after scoring leader and MVP Chantz Petruic (Yorkton) made it official with Carleton University in Ontario, Flin Flon’s Cole Rafuse, who finished second only to Petruic in both goals (39) and points (88) this season, announced he’s heading back to his home province of Nova Scotia, where he’ll join the Acadia University Axemen in 2020-2021.

In just four playoff games, Rafuse led the Bombers to a series sweep of the Humboldt Broncos, racking up a league-high five goals and 11-points, before the post-season was cut short.

Rafuse is  four year veteran of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and has a Memorial Cup on his resume, capturing the national title in 2018 in Regina as a member of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, beating the host Pats in the championship game.

The Bombers have had an excellent track record of moving players on to high profile schools at the next level, both north and south of the border.  So far, Rafuse joins teammates Donavan Houle-Villeneuve (University of Maine – NCAA Division I) and Tristan Lemyre (University of Denver – NCAA Division I) as Bombers from this year’s club to already commit, with more expected in the weeks ahead.
