For the fourth episode of our 2025-26 SJHL RBC Community Ambassadors, we highlight Austin Shepherd of the Melfort Mustangs.
RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference and giving back to the communities where they play. Each Ambassador is celebrated at an RBC Game Night and honoured with an RBC donation to a school in their local community.
SJHL fans will be able to vote online for the RBC Community Ambassador of their choice to be honoured as the recipient of the RBC Community Award at the end of the SJHL regular season. This additional honour is accompanied by a further donation from RBC in the player’s name to a school in their local community.
Austin’s $1,000 donation from RBC will go to Brunswick Elementary School in Melfort, SK.
According to the Mustangs, the Kerrobert, SK native:
leads by example. He is reliable and always respectful to the people around him. He communicates well and takes accountability, holding himself to high standards. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone is included and having fun, always taking the time to talk to kids and make them feel heard.
Shepherd has been credited with:
volunteering with the Learn to Skate program and Minor Hockey twice a week, as well as helping out with a morning skills skate twice a week. He has also been involved with the Read with the Mustangs program at the Public Library for the last 2 seasons. Austin is always one of the first to step up and offer help.
