REGINA, SK – Weyburn Red Wings goaltender Joey Rocha has committed to the University of Alberta of USports for the 2026-27 Canada West campaign.
Rocha, 21, posted a record of 9-7-1 and a .910 save percentage over 18 regular-season appearances for the Wings this past year. He then took it to a new level in the post-season, earning a 2.31 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage to help lead Weyburn to Game 7 of Round 2 against the No. 1-seeded Flin Flon Bombers.
Rocha, of Nanaimo, BC, spent three-and-a-half seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Swift Current Broncos before arriving in the SJHL at this past season’s trade deadline.
In 97 WHL games played, Rocha posted a record of 39-42-2 with a 3.91 goals-against average and an .884 save percentage.
He featured in one junior playoff game before his opportunity with the Red Wings.
Rocha won the 2021-22 Saskatchewan U18AAA title with the Notre Dame Hounds and was named the top goaltender at that year’s Telus Cup.
The Alberta Golden Bears, who play in Edmonton, AB, iced four SJHL alumni in 2025-26.
