SaskPower Rankings: Week 16 – Jan. 20, 2026

SJHL Power Rankings – Week 16 (Jan. 20, 2026)

1. Flin Flon Bombers (Last week 1)

The Bombers got another chance to test-drive their newly deepened squad post-trade deadline with a marquee matchup vs. Yorkton on Saturday, and while there is no doubt their coach, Mike Reagan, will feel they could play better than they did, they still found a way to win again. Flin Flin is a remarkable 16-0 at home so far, so is it too early to start a countdown with 12 games to go to see if they can have a perfect year at the Whitney? The club itself doesn’t love that kind of talk, and indeed it would be very tough, but it would obviously be extraordinary.

2. Battlefords North Stars (Last week 2)

Five of the Stars’ seven games in 2026 have been by one goal so far, which makes their unbeaten in regulation (6-0-1) record over that span even more remarkable. A win and an overtime loss against Warman last weekend could have been two losses, and could have been two wins, but it was just a bigger indication of how on the knife’s edge this club has been the last couple of months. Josh Knittig is on a heater, with a 12-game point streak and counting.

3. Yorkton Terriers (Last week 6)

The sense around the league is that the Terriers have truly entered the highest echelons after their acquisition at the deadline of three new, high-level defenders. After four standings points and 18 goals scored over the three games of their three-in-three northern swing this past weekend, they should be flying high. Emery Olauson’s men have plenty of home games ahead, too, so the hay may continue to be made at the Westland Arena. William Leonard has 15 points over his last six games and is making a very serious bid for player of the month in January. The Terriers will play host to the Kindersley Klippers for the SaskTel Game of the Month on Friday on SaskTel Max TV!

4. Nipawin Hawks (Last week 4)

Friday’s wild defeat to Yorkton was really a microcosm of their season: capable of top-of-the-league brilliance, and also not so much within a very short span. Health remains a concern for the Hawks, but they found ways to win three in a row before Friday. They are still right in that mix for home-ice advantage in Round 1 of the post-season, and maybe even first overall. They also have a ton of games ahead at the Cage, and home cooking has been great for Tad Kozun’s men, who have the second-best home win percentage in the league.

5. Weyburn Red Wings (Last week 5)

The seas have been rocky for the Wings of late, for the first time this season, and losses last week to Melville and Melfort probably did little to calm those frustrations. Still, this group is as battle-tested and talented as any in the league, and with Rylan Pearce flying to start his Weyburn career, there is little reason to worry in the Friendly City. They are in the midst of a five-game home stand, though they have been a better road team than home this season.

6. Estevan Bruins (Last week 3)

Like their Highway 39 cousins, the Bruins have not had a perfect 2026 so far. Losses last week to Yorkton and Melfort were uncharacteristic in the lack of offence they created, and January ends with a very tough schedule for Drew Kocur’s charges (three of their four final games in the month are against Flin Flon). This team has risen to the challenge of adversity before, so they have the experience and skill to do it again.

7. Melfort Mustangs (Last week 10)

In a recent interview with Mustangs’ captain Zayden Sadlemyer, he stated that, regarding the club’s recent winning form, “we told each other, it’s now go-time!” If only it were always that simple! Trevor Blevins’ men went into Estevan and Weyburn last weekend and pulled out classic Melfort 3-2 wins, and look to have shaken off a very tough start to 2026 (and the season as a whole, perhaps). The two-time defending champs are five points out of a playoff spot, but have all the experience and depth in the world they need to make life extremely uncomfortable for the teams ahead of them over the next two months.

8. Humboldt Broncos (Last week 9)

Saturday’s shutout victory over the Melville Millionaires could not have come at a much better time, given that they are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot. They named a new leadership group this past week, with veteran centreman Brayden Skogstad as the new captain, and this team looks to be made in his image: gritty, plucky, and brutal to play against. Kudos to Humboldt local Brady Holtvogt for his second career SJHL goose egg.

9. Melville Millionaires (Last week 8)

The Mils came into Saturday’s game vs. Humboldt on a back-to-back, while the Broncos were fresh, so fair enough. Yet no two games are the same for Doug Johnson’s men, who impressively blew by Weyburn Friday before struggling to generate offence Saturday. Their defence-corps cannot seem to stay healthy, and perhaps goaltender Matt Spencer-Dahl is human after all, but everyone knows Doug knows how to get a team to play the right way when the chips are down. What is the next twist of the tale for the Moneymen? Who knows?

10. Kindersley Klippers (Last week 7)

Given the talent and experience on this team, it stands to reason that head coach Kyle Schneider would be the first one to scratch his head about why this team can beat anybody one period, and not so much the next. Indeed, La Ronge deserves a ton of credit for its third-period rally on Saturday. They have a challenging four-game, five-night southern road trip this week, so getting out on the road and going to war together is what this group needs.

11. Warman Wolverines (Last week 11)

Brett Pilkington’s young group did a terrific job shaking off the disappointment of a couple of weeks ago in Estevan with two powerful performances against Battlefords this past weekend. A win and a loss from the two contests are probably fair results, and morale in Warman from the outside appears to be remaining high. Pherson Loehndorf is having a breakout campaign, leading the team in points as an 18-year-old defenceman, while the newly acquired Trey Markus has had a dynamite start to his career with his hometown club.

12. La Ronge Ice Wolves (Last week 12)

The youthful Wolves were brilliant in the third period Saturday vs. Kindersley, but appeared to have run out of gas at the end of a three-in-three Sunday against Yorkton. Kevin Kaminski has to take his wins, morale and literal, when he can find them, and this weekend’s triumph over the Klippers was indeed both.
