SJHL Power Rankings – Week 6 (Oct. 28, 2025)
1. Humboldt Broncos (Last week 2)
The Broncos enjoyed six of their last seven games at the friendly confines of the Elgar Petersen Arena and took advantage by winning all of them. A marquee week with three wins against three league powers cements their spot as the league’s 1A team, rather than its No. 2. Humboldt is also 5-1 in 1-goal games and 4-0 in overtime. Anybody stopping Jacob Strizzi anytime soon?
2. Weyburn Red Wings (Last week 1)
The Red Wings are literally sitting at home due to a long break in their schedule. They had a dominant October and have been rewarded with a No. 4 ranking in this week’s CJHL Top 20. Their last game was Oct. 18; their next game is Nov. 1, so the manner of their return will be interesting to see. We encourage you to see this as a 1B rather than a No. 2 rank.
3. Kindersley Klippers (Last week 4)
The talent on this team is undeniable, but as much as their only two regulation losses through 14 games are truly impressive, we also have to mention the five points they left on the table from overtime or shootout losses. It’s still early, though, and the raw materials are certainly thereabouts at the top of this list all year long. A tight split with the Melfort Mustangs showed guts.
4. Battlefords North Stars (Last week 9)
Two wild wins in Estevan have this group skyrocketing up the rankings. The Stars have scored seven or more goals in three of their last four, including a total of 15 over two nights this past weekend. Gavin Granger keeps cementing his spot among the best defencemen in the SJHL. Battlefords has played the fewest games in the league at the time of writing (11), and are unbeaten in four. What a job Connor Logan is doing in his first kick at the SJHL head coaching can!
5. Flin Flon Bombers (Last week 8)
Mike Reagan’s men were probably happy to see the end of a tough October, but they did end it in style with three of a possible four points, including a thunderous win in Yorkton and a hard-fought shootout loss at Humboldt. This team will be back at the Whitney Forum a lot more in November (seven out of 11 games), so watch for the typical mid-season Bomber turnaround if it all didn’t start according to Reagan’s plan.
6. Nipawin Hawks (Last week 6)
The Hawks continue to be bitten by the injury bug, but responded well with two strong efforts this past weekend, a win at home against La Ronge and a tight loss in Humboldt. Young 2009 affiliated player Carson Park was excellent over the week, and when this team gets back to full health, look out for the breakout!
7. Melfort Mustangs (Last week 5)
Sure, the year has not gone anywhere as perfectly as last year for the defending champs so far, but the buy-in has still clearly been there. They give up the fewest shots against per game by a wide margin, have the best home power play in the league by a full 10 percentage points, and have only played four times at home so far this year. Coach Blevins will keep tinkering with the line-up, but he has figured it out so many times in the past, shaping Mustang teams into what he wants them to be.
8. Estevan Bruins (Last week 3)
It has been a terrific year for the Bruins so far, but after two games where Battlefords seemed to score at will, this team will be looking at itself in the mirror this week. A vast majority of Estevan’s home games are in the first half of the campaign, so while they’ve been doing well, they really need to keep making hay while the calendar reads 2025.
9. Yorkton Terriers (Last week 7)
Hockey, like life, is so often about how you respond to adversity. The Terriers’ 11-0 loss to Flin Flon last Friday certainly counts as adversity. But Emery Olauson’s men really showed character, playing very well in a 7-2 win over the Warman Wolverines Saturday. Though it has been a wildly up-and-down season for Yorkton, this weekend really said a lot of good things about them.
10. Melville Millionaires (Last week 10)
It is said a ton that the SJHL is a parity-rich league, and that was once again exemplified in the small margins of success Sunday. Had their hearts not been broken by two late goals from the La Ronge Ice Wolves, we would have been praising the Mils for four points out of six over the weekend in a challenging three games in three days. Instead, it was a tough one out of three, with a victory sandwiched by a loss in Warman and at La Ronge—still a good team, with an experienced coach.
11. La Ronge Ice Wolves (Last week 12)
This young team keeps putting up a fight night in and night out, and ground out a dramatic victory at home on Sunday vs. Melville behind a late winner from the heavily underrated Dayton Tailfeathers. How about the season Trevor Oishi is putting together for the Wolves, after an early-season deal from Weyburn? A point per game as a rookie defenceman through seven contests.
12. Warman Wolverines (Last week 11)
Regardless of the results, this team puts in great effort every night. How many junior leagues have this tough of a last-placed squad to beat? Probably none. A potential injury to star goaltender Taye Timmerman is concerning. Still, the Wolverines were full value for their win Friday at home to Melville, behind a pair from ex-Millionaire Peyton Allard. Keep the faith, Warman fans!
