REGINA, SK – It was another busy night in the SJHL, and once again, the fans got their money’s worth.

It is always a must-watch when the Melfort Mustangs and Flin Flon Bombers do battle, and Saturday night at the Whitney Forum was no different.

The clubs traded second-period goals before hometown hero and one-time league RBC Community Ambassador Joey Lies scored a beauty in the shootout to hand the Bombers a 2-1 win. Kason Kobelka was Melfort’s star in net, as he stopped 37 shots on the night. Flin Flon remained a perfect 4-0 to start the season.

For the second night in a row, the Humboldt Broncos and Melville Millionaires needed overtime, but this time they solved it in the extra frame and not the skills competition. Jacob Strizzi found Connor Miller alone with a deft back hand pass from the corner and the Lipton, SK native made no mistake to hand the Broncos the 4-3 victory, their fifth win in a row to start the campaign.

In Estevan, it was the Weyburn Red Wings who grabbed the 6-4 win and a 2-0 lead in the Highway 39 Cup. Second-year defenceman Simon Martin led the way with a goal and two assists, while Ewan Rennie was the high scorer with two points for the home side.

La Ronge and Warman are both looking for their first wins in front of their new homes, as they fell to Nipawin and Kindersley, respectively, despite both outshooting their foes.

Nipawin’s own Raydr Wallington notched his first career goal for his hometown team for the winner in their 5-3 win over the Ice Wolves, while Van Eger, facing the organization (Notre Dame) for whom he played two years ago, earned the game winner with a high-slot rocket 8:24 into the third period for a 3-1 Klippers’ victory.
