SATURDAY RECAP: Hawks stun Mustangs at the Cage

REGINA, SK – Carter Anderson and Mason Karakochuk each notched a pair as the Nipawin Hawks downed the Melfort Mustangs 4-1 Saturday night in Nipawin.

The Hawks are the No. 12 team in the league standings, while the Mustangs are in first place.

Gage Roberts made 27 stops in the win for Nipawin.

In Estevan, Ewan Rennie and Steven Steranka both had two goals and an assist as the Bruins earned Drew Kocur his first win as the club’s head coach with a 7-4 victory over the Kindersley Klippers.

The Bruins’ power play went 3-for-4 on the night.

Jaxson Ruthven led the way with three points as the Weyburn Red Wings extended their win streak to four games through a 6-3 victory in Yorkton over the Terriers.

Finally, in Wilcox, the Flin Flon Bombers closed out their four games in five nights road trip with a dominant 7-1 win vs. the Notre Dame Hounds. Carter Cormier paced Flin Flon with a four-point night.

With the Flin Flon win and Melfort loss, the Bombers slipped within four points of the Mustangs for first place in the SJHL, although Melfort has three games in hand.

Saturday’s games were the final contests before the 2025 SJHL/MJHL Showcase, which will begin on Tuesday in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
