REGINA, SK – Five different Mustangs found the back of the net, and Kristian Coombs made 19 stops as Melfort advanced to Round 2 with a 5-2 Game 5 victory over the Kindersley Klippers.
The Mustangs became the second team after Yorkton moved on Friday to get to the second round.
Meanwhile, in Weyburn, the Battlefords North Stars faced elimination but found a way to stay alive.
They got a game-tying goal from Nikita Ivaschenko with just over five minutes remaining in regulation, his second of the game, and a winner from Jace Rask in the extra frame to earn a 4-3 victory.
Finally, the Flin Flon Bombers made a statement at home with a commanding 9-0 triumph over the Humboldt Broncos to push them to the brink.
Seven different Bombers counted multi-point outings on the night.
