REGINA, SK – The Battlefords North Stars and Flin Flon Bombers are now one win away from meeting each other in the Canterra Seeds Cup Final.
Kaeden Serpa was brilliant in stopping 31 shots, and Cole Hines scored twice, including the winner, as the North Stars edged the Yorkton Terriers 3-2 in Game 5 of Round 2 Saturday.
Hines also opened the scoring at 12:15 of the first period, while his winner, off an Alessio Nardelli face-off win, broke a 2-2 tie with 4:36 remaining in regulation.
Aidan Vallance and Tylan Henrikson had Yorkton’s goals, while Finlay Klippenstein had the Stars’ other marker.
Battlefords took a 3-2 series lead on the night, and can book their second SJHL final berth of the decade (they won the championship in 2023) with a victory in Game 6 at home on Monday evening.
In Flin Flon, Reid Arberry notched a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, an assist, and a fight, and also had the game-winner to help the Bombers down the Weyburn Red Wings 5-1 in Game 5 at the Whitney Forum.
Charlie Tritt made 19 stops in the victory, while Joey Rocha countered with 25 saves in defeat.
The Bombers got goals from five different scorers on the night, and can head to their fourth final in five years with a win Monday night in Weyburn.
