SHOWCASE DAY ONE RECAP

ICE WOLVES HIT THE WIN COLUMN

Sunday afternoon at the SJHL Showcase in Warman saw the La Ronge Ice Wolves earn their first victory of the season, 4-2 over the Kindersley Klippers.

The Ice Wolves (1-5-0-0) trailed until late in the second period when Zach Bannister tied things up with a short-handed goal with 46 seconds left in the middle frame.  Logan Holm, Kyle Ford and Daylon Mannon all added third period goals, and Steven Bacovsky made 24/26 saves.

Liam Fraser and Kyle Bosch replied for the Klippers (2-3-0-0) and Zach Johnson made 27/31 saves.

The Melfort Mustangs started the Showcase off with a bang, handing the Notre Dame Hounds their first loss of the season with a 5-1 decision Sunday.

After being shutout in back to back games to begin the season, the Mustangs (3-2-0-0) have scored 17 times in their last three games, all wins.  Kenzie Arnold picked up the hat trick to lead the charge, while Christian Albertson and Zack Smith added the others.  Shawn Parkinson was impressive, making 34/35 saves.

Jared Hamm replied for the Hounds (3-1-0-0).

Day one wrapped up with the defending champion Battlefords North Stars moving to 4-0-0-0 on the season, with a 4-1 win over the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Stars more than doubled the Wings on the shot clock, out-shooting them 44-20.

Defenseman Seth Summer chipped in three assists, while Brett Gammer, Austin Becker, Kaden Boser and Quinton Loon-Stewardson all found the net.  Parker Rey made his first SJHL start, making 19/20 saves in the win.

Noah Decottignies also made his first SJHL start in the Weyburn crease, making 40/44 saves.  Liam Rutten provided the only offense for the Wings (1-3-0-0).
