SHOWCASE DAY TWO RECAP

The Nipawin Hawks have shutouts in three of their first five games, and they’re now 5-and-0 after a 3-0 blanking of the Notre Dame Hounds in their first game at the Showcase in Warman on Monday afternoon.

20-year-old Ethan Slobodzian had the first two shutouts on opening weekend, and this time it was rookie 18-year-old Ross Hawryluk, who stopped all 43 shots sent his way for his first shutout and second win.

Defenseman Jack Lenchyshyn was in on all three Nipawin goals, scoring his first of the year and assisting on the other two.  Austen Flaman had a goal and an assist, and Michael Makarenko also scored.

Riley Kohonick made 23/26 saves in goal for the Hounds (3-2-0-0).

Seven different Flin Flon Bombers found the net as the Bombers capped off Day 2 of the Showcase with a 7-2 win over Weyburn.

Brandon Cianflone had a goal and an assist during a five goal second period while Cole Rafuse, Billy Klymchuk, Mason Martin and Jack Craycroft also scored in the middle frame.  Tristan Lemyre and Jaeden Mercier got them on the board in the first period, and Jacob Delorme made 21/23 saves for the Bombers (4-1-0-0).

Jevon Schwean and Keigan Callander replied for the Red Wings (1-4-0-0).

Day two in Warman kicked off just after lunch and it saw the Humboldt Broncos defeat the Estevan Bruins 4-3 in overtime.

Rookie defenseman Cody Hough scored his first SJHL goal 3:16 into overtime, while Logan Foster scored twice and Bryson Cecconi opened up the scoring.  Brendan Forman made 35/38 saves in goal for the Broncos (2-2-0-1).

Keenan Rancier was busy at the other end, stopping 43/47 shots for the Bruins (1-3-1-0) while Griffin Asham-Moroz scored twice and Jayden Davis had the other.
