SJHL/MJHL SHOWCASE: Day 1 Recap

WINNIPEG, MB – Day 1 is in the books at the 2025 MJHL/SJHL Showcase in Winnipeg, MB.

It was the first contest of the day between SJHL Gold and MJHL Red, and for the most part, it belonged to the boys from Weyburn.

The all-Red Wing line of Jerome Maharaj, Jaxson Ruthven, and Ethan Dekay combined for six points, and Weyburn net minder Angelo Zol made 27 stops as the SJHLers emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Team Gold had five different goal scorers: Keefe Gruener (Flin Flon), Kent Moors (Estevan), and Anthony Piccinnino (Flin Flon).

Game 2 between SJHL White and MJHL Black began as a cagey affair but ended in fireworks.

After a scoreless first, the teams shared eight goals in the second and five in the third.

Keenan Ingram (Yorkton), Jacob Strizzi (Humboldt), and Zac Somers (Melfort) all scored twice, and eight SJHLers had multi-point outings en route to a 9-4 win.

The final game of the night, the first of two Young Guns games between the league’s respective U18 teams, proved the tightest.

Melfort’s Madden Mulawka shone in the net with 27 stops, and Kindersley Klippers Ethan Sautner and Rylan Wieler found the back of the net to send the game to overtime.

Ultimately, MJHL’s Remy Hlady won the shootout, and Team SJHL Blue fell 3-2.

The SJHL went 2-0-1 on the day.

The Showcase wraps up Wednesday with three more contests, beginning at 11:00 P.M. CT. Tune into all the action on FloHockey and follow along across all our social media platforms!
