SJHL/MJHL SHOWCASE: Day 2 Recap

WINNIPEG, MB – That is a wrap for the 2025 MJHL/SJHL Showcase.

After a 2-0-1 Day 1, spirits were running high in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League camp, but the hosts were to have the joy on Day 2.

The day’s first game saw Team MJHL Black win 5-1 over SJHL Gold, thanks to a pair from Portage Terriers star Cameron Bullinger and a magnificent 43-save performance from Dauphin Kings netminder Cole Sheffield.

Flin Flon’s Anthony Piccinnino, the Player of the Game for Gold on Day 1, had the SJHL’s only response.

Game 2 between SJHL White and MJHL Red was a thriller.

Jaron Desnoyers, the captain of the Yorkton Terriers’, gave White a 3-2 lead 2:48 into the third period, but three straight tallies from Red forced a dramatic finish from a desperate SJHL side.

Humboldt Broncos sniper Jacob Strizzi brought the guests back within one at the 16:12 mark, but it would not be enough as Red added an empty netter and took the contest 6-4.

Finally, it was another nail-biter in the Young Guns series between SJHL Blue U18 and MJHL White U18.

Ashton Tait of the Nipawin Hawks and Northern Manitoba Blizzard defender Esteban Cinq-Mars exchanged goals in regulation, which set the stage for yet another epic shootout after overtime solved nothing.

Kindersley Klipper Brett O’Halloran and Northern Manitoba Blizzard phenom Taye Timmerman went shot for shot in net for 15 rounds before Max Lavoie of the Winkler Flyers eventually notched the winner.

The SJHL, as a whole, went 2-2-2 over the six-game event.

Again, the league would like to express our profound appreciation to the MJHL, which put on a first-class week in every sense.

The SJHL schedule resumes Friday, including the second SaskTel Game of the Month between the Highway 39 rivals, the Estevan Bruins and Weyburn Red Wings.
