SJHL/MJHL Showcase Rosters Announced: Meet Team Kunitz

The SJHL has released their rosters for the 2021/22  SJHL/MJHL Showcase.

The annual cross-league showcase was originally supposed to take place in Winnipeg, MB.  However, it had been recently cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions and complications.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League still believes the great players in our league deserve to experience the spotlight that the showcase brings to schools and scouts every year.

Therefore, coaches around the league have assembled the three SJHL rosters that would be representing Saskatchewan.

Team Kunitz

Its going to be extremely hard to score against Team Kunitz.  La Ronge’s Xavier Cannon paired with Flin Flon’s Cal Shell and his 6 shutouts provides Team Kunitz with the potential best goaltending tandem in the showcase.

You often hear teams are built from the backend out.  Plenty of offence will be created from the blue line courtesy of the Bombers top pairing of Cole Vardy and Xavier Lapointe, the latter of which leads all SJHL defenceman in points (41) and goals (17).

Nipawin’s Evan Bortis, Battelfords’ Tynan Ewart, along with Melfort’s Hayden Tuba and Mark Snarr are a veteran four rounding out the defense that should make Shell and Cannon’s crease comfortable on any night.

12 players from 4 teams will line up front in the forward group for Team Kunitz, so it would be up to the coaches if they want to experiment shuffling line combos.  Jaxon Martens centering his Bomber teammates, Cole Duperreault and Jaeden Mercier will get the start.

Elliot Dutil of Notre Dame and his 32 goals pair alongside fellow Hounds, Princeton commit Kevin Anderson and veteran Connor Nolan.  Dutil and Anderson both got the call-up to the veteran team.

La Ronge is well represented and bring a plethora of talent with Brandon Della Paolera, Gavin Mattey, and Aaron Greyeyes.

Finally, there’s the always-consistent Mustangs’ trio of Curtis Hammond, Nolan Doell, and Ben Tkatchuk.  Roll all four lines here, because any one of them can take over a game.

Congratulations to all the players on Team Kunitz!
