Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

SOURCE EMBROIDERY POWER RANKINGS (Oct 1)

By Mike Stackhouse

1-NIPAWIN HAWKS (6-0) 1st last week
Hawks are up to six straight wins after closing out the Showcase with their second successive victory.  Defense wins championships and the Hawks have allowed just 8 goals.

2-HUMBOLDT BRONCOS (6-2) 7th last week
Six straight wins for the Broncos after starting the season with two straight losses.  Goaltending looks very strong with two stingy netminders and the attack is balanced.

3-BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS (4-3) 8th last week
Stars have won three in a row and four of five since getting swept by Kindersley to start the year.  Sinclair and Urbanski lead the offense and there’s plenty that has been untapped.

4-FLIN FLON BOMBERS (5-3) 6th last week
Bombers have lost twice to Nipawin and once to Yorkton and have beaten Melville three times and La Ronge twice.  They can’t do anything about the schedule, but we will learn more soon as they host Kindersley twice before hitting the road to play Humboldt, Notre Dame, Weyburn, and Estevan.

5-MELFORT MUSTANGS (4-2-1) 5th last week
Offense is flowing with 33-goals in 7-games.  They’ve won three straight and Trevor Blevins is still tinkering with the roster.

6-WEYBURN RED WINGS (4-2) 4th last week
Hiltz, Kazymyra, Kowalski carrying the offense and Riley Lamb has taken the team on his shoulders to be the biggest difference maker in the league so far.

7-ESTEVAN BRUINS (4-3) 3rd last week
Shell shocked at the Showcase against Humboldt and they came up short in both of their games in Warman.  They’ve dropped three of four in what is expected to be just a blip on their season.

8-KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS (4-3) 2nd last week
Klippers have lost three of four, but a few players are starting to step forward and take over the leadership as far as the offense is concerned.  Kyle Bosch has 7-points and rookie Damon McKenzie has 3-goals.

9-NOTRE DAME HOUNDS (2-6) 10th last week
Hounds badly needed a win on Sunday and they delivered, on the road, against a high flying offense.  A good early display of character.

10-YORKTON TERRIERS (2-4-1) 11th last week
They peppered Riley Lamb on Saturday and lost in overtime.  Then, failed to capitalize and build any momentum in losing to Notre Dame on Sunday.

11-LA RONGE ICE WOLVES (1-5) 12th last week
The only club without a victory got in the win column on Sunday by shutting down a desperate Melville Millionaires team 3-1.

12-MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES (1-6-1-1) 9th last week
There’s reason to be concerned.  They play Yorkton 2x, Weyburn, Battlefords, Kindersley, and Humboldt 2x before October 20th.
