Stars Advance to SJHL Finals, Broncos Force Game 5

The 2023 SJHL Playoffs presented by UPL resumed Wednesday night with a pair of Game Four’s in the 2nd round of the post-season. The Battlefords North Stars were able to complete the sweep of the Melfort Mustangs with a 5-2 win, and the Humboldt Broncos extended their season with a 4-1 victory in Flin Flon. A full recap of Wednesday night’s action can be found below with Director of Media Jeromy Corrigan, as well as reaction from Stars Head Coach and General Manager Brayden Klimosko.

Battlefords 5 Melfort 2 (Stars Win Series 4-0)

The Battlefords North Stars completed the sweep of the Melfort Mustangs Wednesday night with a 5-2 win at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort. Alex Izyk, Holden Doell, and Steven Kesslering got the scoring started for the Stars in the opening frame and despite Melfort cutting into the lead with a pair of their own in the 2nd, the Stars would add insurance late and secure the win. With the Stars winning their 2nd round series, the SJHL Final will begin in North Battleford, but who their opponent will be has yet to be determined.

Humboldt 4 Flin Flon 1 (Bombers Lead Series 3-1)

Three 3rd period goals helped extend the Humboldt Broncos season as they earned a 4-1 win on the road in Flin Flon against the Bombers. Spencer Bell scored the game winner 3:31 into the 3rd period on the man advantage, Ethan Zielke added some insurance, and Ben Kotylak put home the empty netter to give Humboldt their first win of round two. Benjamin Motew was superb in the victory for the Broncos, stopping 40 of 41 shots faced. With the win, the Broncos have forced a Game 5 back at the EPA Friday night in Humboldt.
