SUPER FRIDAY RECAP: Broncos edge Mustangs in battle of attrition

REGINA, SK – Humboldt captain Landen Stromme scored twice in regulation and the winner in the shootout as the Broncos edged the Melfort Mustangs 4-3 in a contest between two injury-riddled clubs.

Logan Belton tied the game at three for the Mustangs, with 24 seconds remaining in the third period, to earn Melfort a point and stay seven points ahead of Flin Flon for first in the league.

In Yorkton, those Flin Flon Bombers got the winner from Koen Senft at the 8:25 mark of the middle frame to down the Terriers 4-1.

Matthew Kieper made 22 stops in the win to improve to 20-0-1-1 on the season.

Nikita Ivaschenko scored in his 11th-straight contest, and his third-period tally stood up as the winner as the Battlefords North Stars rallied past their west Sask rival Kindersley Klippers 3-2.

The Stars win moved them five points clear of the Klippers for seventh in the SJHL.

The Melville Millionaires remained the league’s hottest team as five different scorers found the back of the net en route to a 5-3 victory vs. the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Melville held 5th place with the win, one point ahead of Humboldt.

The young Nipawin Hawks won their second in a row in a wild one, outlasting the Weyburn Red Wings 7-5 at Crescent Point Place.

Captain Finley Radloff led the way with two goals, while Gage Roberts made 41 stops in the victory.

Finally, in Estevan, the Bruins blew the doors off a shorthanded Notre Dame side 9-0. Steven Steranka paced the offence with four points, while Beck Boiteau made 19 stops for his first career junior shutout.
