In the post-COVID world everyone is working hard to bring things back to normal, but for sports leagues social distancing rules have made it almost impossible to continue on with many events, including the conclusion of the SJHL season.
But, thankfully the awesome team over at the SJHL has come up with a unique solution that uses esports to bridge the gap and provide closure to the season with a simulated Canalta Cup!
The simulated series and end of season are an innovative way to provide entertainment to the league’s largely young and dedicated fanbase who may be struggling with the challenges imposed by COVID-19 restrictions.
Picking up where the season left off on 13 March 2020, The SJHL has taken the league’s teams and imported them into EA Sports NHL 2020 on Sony’s PS4. They’ve used the virtual rosters to run live sims as a way to complete the remainder of the season. And, with the help of SaskTel, the Canalta Cup Simulated Series Finals will be available on SaskTel MaxTV Local on Demand. Talk about taking digital transformation to a whole new level!
Games will air live on the SJHL’s Twitch channel (twitch.tv/sjhlhockey) beginning May 10 at 6:30 p.m. with MaxTV Local on Demand replays premiering the following day at 8 p.m. If you’d like to check it out, a full schedule follows below!
