Three SJHL alumni named captains of D1 Lindenwood

REGINA, SK – Three Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League alumni have been named captains of the Lindenwood University Lions of NCAA Division I for the 2025-26 campaign.

Drew Kuzma, 22, has been named club captain and spent 79 games in the SJHL between the Weyburn Red Wings and Flin Flon Bombers between 2020 and 2022. He played for the Bombers at the 2022 Centennial Cup in Estevan, where he posted four points in five contests. In all, he counted 62 points over his SJHL career.

Kuzma, of St. Albert, AB, has played in 87 games for Lindenwood and has posted 23 points over that span.

Ethan Zielke, 22, will wear an ‘A’ and posted 94 points in 119 regular and post-season SJHL contests for the Humboldt Broncos between 2021 and 2023. While there, he was named captain of the Broncos and represented the league and Canada West at the 2023 World Junior A Challenge.

The Calgary, AB native has 22 points in 58 NCAA Division I games.

Jake Southgate, 22, hails from North Battleford, SK, and scored 165 points in 134 games between 2019 and 2023 for his hometown team. The captain of the historic 2022-23 Canterra Seeds Cup champion North Stars, Southgate helped the club to the Centennial Cup final in Portage, MB, where he scored seven points in six contests.

He will also wear an ‘A’ for the Lions this year.
