REGINA, SK – The two-time defending champions have punched their ticket to the post-season.
Austin Shepherd’s second-period marker held up as the winner as the Melfort Mustangs clinched their playoff spot with a 3-1 victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Tuesday.
Madden Mulawka made 27 stops in the win, Melfort’s 12th in a row.
They now sit four points back of Weyburn for fifth place, though the Wings have a game in hand.
Elsewhere in Melville, the Millionaires moved back ahead of idle Estevan for seventh with their 4-0 triumph over the Warman Wolverines.
Matt Spencer-Dahl stopped all 21 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season, which places him second in the league in shutouts despite featuring in only 19 contests at the time of writing.
Brayden Gourley was the game-high scorer with a goal and an assist on the night.
There are now only two playoff spots remaining up for grabs, with four teams still alive in the chase for them.
