REGINA, SK – Adam Savage Keller scored the winner in the shootout, and the Weyburn Red Wings held on to first place in the league with a 4-3 win over the Kindersley Klippers in the skills competition.
Both goaltenders, Mattias Radke of the Klippers and Preston Patenaude of the Wings, were brilliant on the night, with the former making 45 stops and the latter 33 for his fourth win in four starts on the young campaign.
Elsewhere in Nipawin, it was the Hawks who remained two points behind in second as a Carter Anderson second-period marker held up as the winner in a 3-1 triumph over the visiting Flin Flon Bombers.
Anderson, Nipawin’s leading goal scorer from a year ago, had not found the back of the net through the first six games of the season, but now has two goals, both game winners, in as many games.
The Hawks have not lost since the second game of the campaign, and are riding a six-game winning streak.
Finally, the La Ronge Ice Wolves won their second contest in their last three when they took down the Warman Wolverines 5-2.
Captain Zane Normand’s second of the year on an Ice Wolves power play at 17:03 of the second period stood up as the winner, a tally that was also his second game-winner of the season.
The victory jumped La Ronge up two spots into ninth place in the league standings.
