Four Games And A Full Day Of Action

The Flin Flon Bombers erased 3-0 and 5-3 deficits against the Yorkton Terriers in Tuesday’s night cap at the SJHL Showcase in Warman, SK, but the Terriers grabbed one more lead in the third period thanks to Chantz Petruic’s second goal of the night, and they hung on to that one for a 6-5 win.

Jared Legein scored twice and added one assist while Braden Klatt and Aiden Bulych both notched three assists. Cody Bruchkowski (1g-1a) and Cole Keenleyside also found the net, as the bulk of Yorkton’s top veteran forwards figured in on the scoresheet. Ben Laidlaw made 41/46 saves for the Terriers (2-3-0-0).

Caleb Moretz had two goals and two assists for the Bombers (3-3-0-0), all in the first 40 minutes. Daylan Marchi also scores twice and added one assist, and Brandson Hein notched his 6th goal of the season.

In his second game with the Melfort Mustangs, former Nipawin Hawk Kenzie Arnold racked up a goal and three assists, leading Melfort over the Notre Dame Hounds 6-3. Carson Albrecht and Jake Hobson had a goal and two assists each. Justin Ball scored his 6th of the year and Chase Anderson also found the net. Hunter Arps made 34/37 saves and the Mustangs improved to 3-2-1-0.

Marshall Wilton and Jared Hamm each had a goal and an assist for the Hounds (1-4-0-0) while Cole Stevenson rounded out the scoring.

The Humboldt Broncos stormed out with four goals in the first period, and rolled to a 6-2 win over the Estevan Bruins.

Rookie Zach McIntyre scored his first two goals of the season and Brayden Camrud had three assists, giving him six points (3g-3a) on the year. Michael Clarke (1g-1a), Josh Patrician, Jackson Kobelka and Daunte Fortner all scored as well. Dane Dow stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced and the Broncos (3-2-0-0) won their third straight after dropping their first two of the season.

Jayden Davis and Michael McChesney scored and Turner Ripplinger assisted on both for the Bruins (3-2-0-0).

The Battlefords North Stars didn’t have much trouble getting stared early in the 10:00 AM game, as Owen Lamb and Ryan Granville got them out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period. MacGregor Sinclair added a goal and an assist, and Joel Gryzbowski made 31/33 saves as the Stars edged the Weyburn Red Wings 3-2.

Jordan Kazymyra and Ben Hiltz scored for the Red Wings (3-2-0-0). For Hiltz, it was his league-leading 7th goal of the season. His 12 points have him in a share of the league lead with Estevan’s TJ Irey and Flin Flon’s Brandson Hein. Riley Lamb made 39/42 saves in the loss.

That was the last full day of action in Warman. The SJHL Showcase wraps up with a pair of Wednesday games. Nipawin takes their 5-0 mark into an 11:00 AM game against Notre Dame. At 2:00, Humboldt and Melville will finish off the four day event.
