For the first time since opening weekend, 38 nights ago, the Melfort Mustangs have suffered a regulation loss.

Ryan Ouelette, Yorkton’s promising rookie goaltender from last season, returned this week after a stint south of the border, and made 44/46 saves in his season debut, as the Terriers doubled the Mustangs 4-2.

Chantz Petruic had three assists, and takes over the SJHL scoring lead with 29-points through 16-games. Jaxon Blight added his first SJHL goal for the Terriers (7-9-0-0), who now lead the Viterra Division, while Ryan Ries, Steven Norum and Kurri Woodford all added a goal and an assist.

The Mustangs’ (10-3-2-1) last regulation loss was on September 14th, when they lost their second straight 3-0 decision to Nipawin on opening weekend.

Ben Tkachuk opened the scoring for Melfort while Colton Schell added a third period goal.

Logan Kurki had a goal and an assist, including the overtime winner in his Humboldt Broncos’ debut, helping his new club to a 3-2 (OT) decision over the visiting Notre Dame Hounds on Tuesday.

Kurki was acquired from the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express last week.

Zach McIntyre and Karter McNarland also scored and Brendan Forman made 35/37 saves for the Broncos (8-4-1-1).

Braydon Iwaschuk and Jake Dale replied for the Hounds (5-8-2-0), and it was a goaltenders’ duel at both ends as Riley Kohonick made 38/41 saves in the OT loss.
