CAMROSE, AB – Team SJHL has clinched its spot in the Gold Medal Game of the 2026 Viking Cup with Wednesday’s 7-3 win over the University of Alberta at Augustana of the ACAC.

Ethan Andrews (Estevan Bruins) and Jye Zawatsky (Yorkton Terriers) led the way with two goals apiece, while Drew Molde (Weyburn Red Wings), Rylan Williams (Estevan Bruins), and Zayden Sadlemyer (Melfort Mustangs) notched singles.

The SJHL went 4-for-8 on the power play, including two man-advantage markers from Andrews within 25 seconds mid-way through the second period.

Graham Brown (La Ronge Ice Wolves) made 31 saves for his second win in as many starts for Team SJHL.

Alberta at Augustana iced 10 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League alums, including goaltender Cody Jaman, formerly of the Kindersley Klippers, who made 30 stops in the loss.

Former Weyburn Red Wing and current Augustana forward Braigh LeGrandeur scored a beautiful shorthanded marker in the middle frame.

Team SJHL can finish no lower than second place, and therefore have earned an immediate bye into Saturday’s Gold Medal Game at 6:00 P.M. local, 7:00 P.M. in Saskatchewan.

They will finish first unless SAIT (ACAC) beats Czechia Jan. 1, and the SJHL Jan. 2, both in regulation.

Drew Kocur’s men will rest on New Year’s Day before taking on the Calgary-based ACAC school at noon Friday.
