Hawks, Hounds In The Win Column

Joel Gryzbowski and Patrick Pugliese went shot for shot on Wednesday night, as the Nipawin Hawks and Battlefords North Stars needed a shootout to settle a 1-1 draw, with the Hawks prevailing 2-1 (SO).

Shots were 39-35 for Battlefords, with Pugliese making 38/39 saves through regulation and overtime, before going 3/3 in the shootout.  Gryzbowski turned away 34/35 shots.

Austen Flaman opened the scoring for the Hawks (7-1-0-0) late in the first period, while Matthew Fletcher tied things up for the Stars (4-3-0-1) in the final minute of the second.  Nipawin’s Eric Sorensen scored the shootout winner and added an assist.

The Notre Dame Hounds picked up their second straight win Wednedsay, doing all of their scoring in the second period of a 5-2 win over the visiting Estevan Bruins.

Rookie Nolan Renwick had a goal and an assist for the Hounds (3-6-0-0) and already has seven points (3g-4a) on the season.  Also scoring for Notre Dame was Noah Bankowski, Jakob Breault (6th of the season), Cole Stevenson and Qaritag Kusugak-Clark.  Andrew Henderson made 28/30 saves.

Ryder Pierson opened the scoring for the Bruins (4-4-0-0), while Tom Sweeney added a goal and an assist.  Jerzy Martin chipped in a pair of assists.
