One Goal Wins For Millionaires, Mustangs

Connor Dochuk made 34 saves on 35 shots to lead the Melville Millionaires past the Notre Dame Hounds 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night.

Dochuk stopped all 17 shots he faced in the third period, as the Hounds out-shot Melville 35-20, and 17-4 in the third period alone.

The teams traded second period goals as Noah Bankowski scored his first SJHL goal for the Hounds (10-5-1-3) before Melville’s Damian Bentz tied things up at the 4:04 mark.

Bentz and Isaac Embree went on to score in the shootout for the Millionaires (6-12-0-2), while Notre Dame’s Jacob Standen made 19/20 saves in goal.

Kalem Zary had three assists and the Melfort Mustangs edged the Estevan Bruins by a score of 4-3.

Colin Schmidt scored twice while Kayle Tosh had a goal and an assist, and Rock Ruschkowski added a goal.  Hunter Arps made 38/41 saves in goal for the Mustangs (13-4-2-1), who won their second straight game.

Zach Goberis scored his 20th goal of the season for the Bruins (12-6-1-0).  Kaelan Holt (1g-1a) and Jerzy Martin also scored and Matt Lukacs made 30/34 saves.

The Bruins continue on through the Sherwood Division to Flin Flon Thursday, La Ronge Saturday and Nipawin Sunday.
