Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

WEDNESDAY WRAP

The Humboldt Broncos won their fourth straight game on Wednesday, 6-1 over the Battlefords North Stars, meaning the Broncos still have a shot at moving up from eighth place heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The Broncos (26-21-7-2) are three points back of both Nipawin and Estevan for sixth place, with two games left, so if they’re able to win their games with Notre Dame and Melville, and either or both of Nipawin (vs Melfort x2) and Estevan (vs Weyburn x2) lost their remaining games, they could still overtake one or both.

It’s still possible for Nipawin to fall as far as 8th, or rise as high as 4th.

Reid Arnold scored twice for Humboldt, while Logan Kurki (1g-1a), Logan Foster, Cody Hough and Braiden Koran also found the net.  Michael Harroch made 21/22 saves in the win.

The North Stars (44-10-2-0) were short-staffed, sitting some regulars and dressing multiple AP’s, giving up 60 shots on Wednesday.  Austin Schwab made 54/60 saves and Ryland McNinch did the scoring.

The Estevan Bruins have moved into a sixth place tie with Nipawin after their fourth straight win, a 6-1 decision in Notre Dame.

The Bruins (30-22-3-1) have a matching record with Nipawin, but have two fewer regulation + overtime wins (the first tie-breaker).

Tyler Savage (2g-1a) and Jayden Davis each scored twice, wihle Troy Hamilton added a goal and two assists.  Cody Davis also scored and Keenan Rancier stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced.

Sho Takai scored his 15th goal of the season for the Hounds (18-31-5-3) and Logan Dyck made 37 saves.

The Hounds will finish off their season Saturday in Humboldt.  The Bruins have a Friday/Saturday home-and-home with Weyburn,
